Galatians 1:10-12
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. What is one thing from the passage or sermon that has stuck with you since Sunday?
2. Neal brought up in our meeting this week the concept of us having three approval sources in life—others, self, and God—where do each of these sources show up in your life?
-How does the approval of God in Christ being the only one that matters grant you freedom from the burdens of the other two?
3. (From Platt/Merida) How do Paul’s words about pleasing Christ, not men, affect you? Do you struggle with the desire to please others rather than Christ? What might you do to fight this sin effectively?
4. If man’s Gospel can be summarized either as “Do this, then you’ll be accepted,” OR “You’re mostly pretty good, but you need Jesus just a bit,” what is the true Gospel?
5. Paul owns the fact that he once lived in a way that was seeking to please man (v.10). Why do you think he would bring this up as part of his argument?
6. Do you read “revelation of Jesus” as talking about Jesus as the thing revealed, or as Jesus being the one who reveals? Why/ what are the implications?
7. How does this passage call us as congregants of Mars Hill (or any church) to pray for our teachers (and the teachers of other local congregations)?
