Galatians 1:10-12
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
What caught your attention from our study in Galatians 1:10-12 on Sunday?
Paul writes the letter of Galatians to safeguard the truth of the gospel that is being reversed (Gal 1:7, 2:5, and Acts 15:1) and to calm the Galatian believers who are being agitated by the Judaizers (Gal 1:6). If the message of the Judaizers is “troubling/ agitating” the Galatian believers and a “distortion/ reversal” of the gospel, what is the true gospel that brings peace (cf. Acts 13:38-39, Gal 2:16, 3:11)?
How do we know the gospel Paul proclaims is the true gospel (cf. Gal 1:1 and 11-12)? Where did Paul receive the message of the gospel he proclaimed (cf. Gal 1:11-12, 15-17, 2:1-2, 6, 7-9, 1 Cor 11:23, 15:3)? What does remembering the source of the gospel do for the faith of the Galatian believers and us?
What credentials/ self-justifications do you tend to put before others as a reason they should accept you? What credentials/ self-justifications do you tend to put before God that make you feel acceptable?
What does God think of you right now (i.e., what is God’s attitude and expression toward you)? Why? What is your answer based upon?
What promises are offered in Galatians 3:26, 4:4-7, 1 John 3:1-2, John 16:27, and 17:23 for those who are in Christ?
Is it a struggle for you to believe that God fully accepts you, even as he loves his own son Jesus? Why or why not?
How does it feel when people criticize you? Are you devastated or crushed by it? How does it feel when people praise you? Does it give you unusual value and meaning?
How does our union with Christ and the full acceptance and approval of the Father keep us anchored and balanced regardless of the approval of man? Why is it hard to live anchored to God’s approval? What can we do together to help?
What do you have to be thankful for as a result of studying this text? How can we apply this text to daily life?
