Galatians 2:1-10

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

How does Galatians 2:1-10 provide further support that Paul’s gospel message came directly from Jesus, not from man (e.g., Gal 1:11-12)?

If Paul received his message directly from Jesus and he did not need the authorization or validation of the Jerusalem apostles, why did Paul go to Jerusalem and present the gospel he preaches before them (Gal 2:2a)?

What is the grave concern in Galatians 2:4 (cf. Gal 1:7, Acts 15:1)?

Paul warned of "fierce wolves" in the church, twisting the truth and leading unsuspecting disciples away “after them” (Acts 20:29-30). Jesus said we would know them by their fruits (Matt 7:15-20). What are those fruits (cf. Acts 20:30, 1 Tim 1:3-7, and 2 Tim 3:1-9), and how are the apostles different?

Why was the Jerusalem leaders’ decision about Titus so significant (cf. Gal 2:3, Acts 15:1)?

What are modern ways people try to add to or diminish Jesus’ finished work? Why does adding to Jesus’ work nullify it and lead to slavery?

Why is it significant that Peter, James, and John affirmed the gospel Paul proclaimed and “gave the right hand of fellowship” to Paul and Barnabas?

How does the unity of the apostles regarding the gospel message give you comfort and assurance to stand firm in your faith (e.g., Gal 2:5-6)?

Peter, Paul, James, and John all agree that gospel doctrine should lead to gospel action and application (Gal 2:10). Why is this so important and encouraging to hear?

Why does true faith lead to outward care and compassion (cf. 2 Cor 8:9, Eph 2:8-10, James 2:26)? Why is care and compassion for the poor a natural outcome for those transformed by the gospel?

What do we learn about the gospel from studying Galatians 2:1-10?

What can we celebrate and give thanks for in Galatians 2:1-10?

How can we apply this text to everyday life this week?
