Galatians 2:1-10
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
What do you remember from Sunday’s sermon/passage that is still in your mind today?
Why do you think Paul talks to the leaders in Jerusalem after 14 years? What does he fear in verse 2?
-Sidenote: the term “seemed” is not in the Greek of v.2 nor is it in most translations, only in the ESV from what I could find. Most translations emphasize that they were seen as the leaders/of good reputation.
In v.9, the apostles “perceived the grace given to” Paul. Again, why do you think Paul includes this in framing that his message is form God, not man?
Read 2 Cor 11:22-27, the only other place the term “false brothers” (pseud-adelphos) is used in the New Testament. How are the “false brothers” in verse 4 different from people who are just “false faces” (hypocrites)?
Who or what, in our context, do you think is ACTIVELY seeking to subvert the gospel?
-How can we respond to these subversions?
What character traits does Paul exemplify in this passage that we ought to emulate?
How does this passage help us understand the value of church unity in the eyes of the apostles? What would it look like for us to pursue this today—both in our congregation and in the capital “C” Church as a whole?
