Galatians 5:25-26

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

What stood out to you most as you studied Galatians 5:25–26, and why?

How did the Galatians view spiritual growth and change based on Galatians 3:2–3? According to Galatians 1:7; 2:13–14; 5:15; and 5:26, what did that way of living actually produce?

How is Paul’s instruction on growth and change different from the Galatians’ approach (see Gal 5:16, 22–25; Rom 8:13)? What does keeping in step with the Spirit produce according to Galatians 5:13, 6:1-4, 9-10, and 14?

The term “conceit,” or “empty glory,” points to a deluded view of self and a deeper heart cry for meaning, validation, and identity. How does keeping in step with the Spirit offer a remedy to all of this?

In what situations are you most tempted to measure yourself against others—either to feel superior or inferior?

Why do you think a self-made identity tends to produce either provoking (feeling superior) or envying (feeling inferior) others? How does walking by the Spirit and resting in our justified identity in Christ address both?

Paul’s solution to empty glory is not self-improvement but keeping in step with the Spirit. What are some ordinary ways the Spirit uses (Word, prayer, community, etc) to remind you of your soul-deep identity in Christ—and which of those are easiest for you to neglect?

As you reflect on this passage, what would it look like for you this week to stop striving for worth and instead live from the worth Christ has already given you?
