DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

What did you find helpful from our study of Galatians 3:15-22?

The Judaizers accused Paul of dismissing the law and preaching against it (Acts 21:28), but what is Paul doing in Galatians 3:15-22?

What can the law do and what can the law not do based on Galatians 3:15-22?

If the law does not do away with God’s covenant promise to Abraham, and the law was not given as a way of salvation, what is the point of the law (cf. Gal 3:19 and 24-25, Rom 3:20, 7:7-8)?

How does the law reveal our sinful, lawless, law-breaking hearts?

If the law alerts us to our status as lawbreakers, the deceitfulness of our hearts, and the unknown recesses of sin in our lives (Jer 17:9), how should we view the law based on Galatians 3:15-21 and Romans 7:12?

How does the law prepare us for grace (Gal 3:22 and 24)?

If we are set free from the law, what motive do we have for pursuing a life of holiness now (cf. Gal 2:19-21)?

One thing we learn in Galatians 3:15-22 is that God’s promises and faithfulness are unalterable (cf. Ex 34:6-7, Neh 9:17). How does that encourage you, give you hope, and fuel your everyday living?

What do we learn about God’s wisdom and redemptive plan in seeing the relationship between the law and grace?

How does the law (and its instructive and imprisoning purposes) help us in proclaiming the gospel (cf. James 2:10-11, Eph 2:1-9)?

How does a better understanding of the law affect our gratitude to Jesus (cf. Rom 7:24-25a), and what can we celebrate from studying this text?
