Esther 10:1-3

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

What is your favorite part of the book of Esther, or a moment that especially stood out to you? Why?

What does Esther 10 teach us about God’s providence and His ongoing care for His people?

The book of Esther is filled with surprising reversals. Why is it good for us to see these? Where have you experienced similar reversals and redemption in your own life?

Esther and Mordecai are raised up to positions of power within a pagan empire. Who else in Scripture was placed in a position of influence before kings or authorities (e.g., Gen 39:4; Gen 41:39–43; Dan. 2:48; 4:27; Neh 1:11; Esther 2:17; 5:1-3; Esther 10:3)?

What patterns do you notice about how God uses His people in those settings (cf. Esther 10:3 and Jer 29:7)? What seems to matter most in how they live and lead?

When Esther and Mordecai are given influence, they use it not for personal comfort but for the good of others (cf. Esther 10:3). What does this teach us about why God entrusts influence, authority, or opportunity to His people?

Most of us won’t stand before kings, but we all have spheres of influence—workplaces, families, friendships, communities. What might it look like to use those opportunities for the good of others and the purposes of God?

Where might God be calling you to step forward in courage or faith right now?

What promises from Scripture can we cling to as we live as God’s people in the world (e.g. Phil 3:20; 1 Peter 2:9-12, Heb 11:13-16, Matt 10:19-20, Lk 21:12-15, Col 4:5-6, 1 Tim 2:1-4). Which of these do you most need to remember right now?

How has studying through the book of Esther encouraged or challenged your faith?
