Esther 9:1-32
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. [NARRATIVE] As the penultimate section of Esther, how does this chapter start to resolve
the conflict, and how is the author directing his readers to reflect or respond?
2. [SIN] Kyle emphasized a “self-measuring” aspect of sin’s destructive
consequences? How have you seen sin in your own life measure out its
consequences? (distance between you and others, God, or even yourself are
good places to start thinking here)
3. [PEACE] “God’s promises are stronger than your worst enemy’s best plan.”
How is this comforting, and where do you need that comfort today? Who, in
your life, could use reminding of God’s promises today?
4. [GOSPEL] What is ultimately at risk in this passage, if the second decree (by
Mordecai) is not made?
5. [CHURCH PRACTICE] How does our practice of Communion echo the desire of
the Jews to celebrate Purim? What are the similarities and differences
surrounding what is being celebrated?
6. [COOKING] How does this passage change your mental image of BBQ
skewers?
