Galatians 2:17-21
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
What did Paul come to realize through the law (cf. Rom 7:7-11, Gal 3:10, and 5:2-3)?
Yet, what good news did Paul declare in Colossians 2:13-15 and Romans 7:4-7, and announce about himself in Galatians 2:19-20?
What does it mean to die to the law and be crucified with Christ (cf. Galatians 2:20, Romans 4:5, and 6:1-19)?
Why did Paul die to the law, and why is that the only way to truly live (Galatians 2:19b, Romans 7:1, 9:30-32, 10:1-4)?
If we are not justified by works of the law, does that mean we can ignore holiness? Why or why not? How do Galatians 2:17, 19-21, and Romans 6:1-19 provide clarity?
If obedience to the law isn’t what makes us acceptable to God, what motivation do we have to obey and pursue holiness?
How does Paul’s answer in Galatians 2:17-20 prevent us from living a life of flagrant sin?
What does living a crucified life with Christ as our king look like in practice (cf. 1 Cor 5:14-15, 6:9-12, 19-20, Phil 4:8-16)?
What are we saying about Jesus’ work if we pursue justification by works of the law (e.g., Gal 2:21)?
How will the truth of “Christ in you” shape the way you approach your struggles, decisions, and relationships this week?
How were these verses in Galatians 2:17-21 encouraging and helpful to you? What will you take away and apply this week?
