The Gospel of Mark portrays the ministry and life of Jesus in an urgent and compelling manner—emphasizing his role as the suffering servant, what the call to discipleship looks like, and the urgency of life. While we want to live life at a God-speed pace of everyday walking and not joining the hustle and bustle of our culture, the Gospel of Mark compels us to take every step of that walk seriously and not to delay in obedience or in our curiosity. Christ is king, and he has changed the world; He wants and will change our lives as well. As we read and study together, we will dive into the text and its world, seeing what the Lord would say to us today along with his call from 2000 years ago, “Follow me.”
