STAGE TEN

AGES 65 & UP | LATE ADULTHOOD

What occurs in Stage Ten

Embracing Retirement and Leisure

Many folks in this season transition from full-time work to a slower pace of life. This allows them to explore hobbies, travel, or spend time with loved ones. Purpose and joy are often found in being present, enjoying each moment, and doing things that matter.

Navigating Physical and Health Changes

Aging brings noticeable shifts in physical ability from decreased strength to managing chronic conditions. Staying healthy requires intentional care, regular check-ups, and adapting to and accepting new limitations.

Valuing Social Connections

Relationships are even more central as time with family and close friends becomes more precious. Many folks prioritize staying connected through church, community activities, or other support networks. Strong social bonds play a significant role in emotional and mental well-being.

Finding Joy in Grandparenthood and Legacy

Becoming grandparents and mentoring younger generations bring deep joy and give opportunities to pass down stories, values, and faith. Leaving a legacy through family, service, or faith is often a deeply held desire.

Reflecting Spiritually and Preparing for the Future

End-of-life planning and the desire to finish well become more relevant. Spiritual reflection increases as individuals look back on their lives and ahead to eternity. There’s an increased focus on peace, purpose, and following God with each next step.

Adapting Cognitively and Emotionally

While some may notice slower recall or small memory lapses, wisdom and insight continue to grow. Older adults navigate life’s transitions by leaning on God, family and friends. Emotional strength, perspective, and gratitude often define this season.

MILESTONE PATH

Milestone #7: Life in Christ

Life in Christ is a lifelong relationship that begins with knowing Jesus and continues as we journey with Him and become more like Him.

In John 15, Jesus says that apart from Him, we can do nothing; but if we remain in Him, we will grow and bear fruit. At Mars Hill, we believe community and active discipleship are essential for growth and staying connected to Jesus, which is why we offer community groups, ongoing events, and ways to serve others.
