Growing Together: Discipleship for 7th & 8th Graders

Middle school is a time of big questions and even bigger growth, as students begin to shape their identity and explore what it means to follow Jesus in real life. Growing in Christ alongside other believers allows students to wrestle with their struggles, find strength in Scripture, and be sharpened by one another, just as Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpens iron.” In the context of a Gospel-centered community and trusted adult leaders, faith becomes more than something they learn—it becomes something they live.

Where 7th & 8th Graders Are and Where We're Leading Them

  • Identity & Faith Formation

Students are beginning to explore who they are and how their faith fits into that. They wrestle with questions about self-image, purpose, and God’s will, forming the foundation of their spiritual identity.

  • Biblical Understanding & Application

They’re learning to connect biblical truths to real-life situations. As they grow in their ability to think abstractly and reason, they begin to practice spiritual disciplines like prayer and Bible reading more consistently.

  • Critical Thinking & Values Development

Middle schoolers start to evaluate different worldviews, including their own. They develop core beliefs and values while asking deeper questions about what they believe and why.

  • Relational Growth & Community Influence

Peers become a major influence during this stage, often more than parents. Students learn social norms, the importance of boundaries, and how to engage in healthy, Christ-centered relationships.
