DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

How were you encouraged or challenged by studying 1 Corinthians 7:17-24?

When we face difficult or confusing circumstances, what do we often believe will make things better? What do we carry with us into every new situation (cf. Jer 17:9)?

Paul repeatedly tells believers to remain in the situation in which they were called (vv. 17, 20, 24). Does this mean we should never seek to change our circumstances (v. 21)? What, then, is he encouraging them to prioritize (v. 19)?

Why is Paul's wisdom about remaining faithful in our present circumstances so valuable, especially when life feels uncertain or unsettled?

Is there something in your life you wish were different but cannot presently change? How might focusing on faithfulness to Jesus rather than changing your circumstances help you walk with greater peace?

Paul reminds the Corinthians that regardless of their social status, they belong to Christ (vv. 22–23). How does belonging to Jesus change the way we think about our circumstances, the expectations of others, or the status we hold?

Paul concludes by telling each believer to remain “with God” (v. 24). What does faithfulness to Jesus look like in your current situation and circumstances?
