DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

What encouraged or challenged you most from our study of 1 Corinthians 1:18-31?

What does 1 Corinthians 1:18-31 say about the wisdom of God in comparison to the wisdom of the world (cf. Rom 11:33-34; Is 40:28; Is 55:8-9)? How does that give hope (cf. 1 Cor 2:9)?

In the wisdom of God, salvation comes by grace through faith in a crucified Christ. Why is that foolishness to the world? How does it challenge our pride? And yet, why is salvation by grace such good news (1 Cor 1:26-27)?

What are some things we are tempted to boast in for why God should accept us? Yet what does Jesus work on the cross do to human boasting (cf. 1 Cor 1:29, 2 Cor 10:17-18, Eph 2:8-9?

According to 1 Corinthians 1:30, what do we now possess because we are “in Christ”? How should that shape the way we view ourselves and face everyday life?

If our acceptance before God depends entirely on Christ rather than ourselves, how should that change the way we respond when we fail or when we succeed?

How would your decisions, relationships, or priorities look different if you truly believed that God's wisdom is better than the world's wisdom?

What would it look like this week to "boast in the Lord" (1 Cor 1:31) instead of boasting in yourself or something you've achieved?
