Esther 7:1-10
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
What stands out to you most in Esther 7, and why?
Haman’s hope was in himself, his achievements, and his possessions (5:11-12). He aspired for the king’s throne, robe, and crown (6:6-8). In Esther 7:7, Haman’s world collapses in a moment. What does his downfall teach us about trusting in ourselves or in the things of this world?
Esther trusted God (4:16) and acted faithfully (5:1-2). Mordecai was overlooked, anchored his life in God’s promises (4:13), his life was spared, and he was given a new royal status before the king. What do you learn from their faith about trusting God in real life?
How do Esther and Mordecai point beyond themselves to Jesus? What does Jesus do for us that they could only foreshadow?
In Esther 7:3-4, Esther so identifies her life with her people’s that they are hidden in her. What happens to her will happen to them. Why is this so moving, and how does it point us to Jesus? Where do you struggle to believe that you are truly “covered” or secure in Christ?
What do you think it means that your life is “hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3)? If His status is now your status, how should that change: How you see yourself? How do you respond to failure or sin? How do you relate to others?
How does the cross—the ultimate reversal and covering—give you confidence that God’s is for you and not against you? What specific fears, struggles, or uncertainties in your life right now does this truth speak into?
Esther 7 shows that God defends His people and fights for His bride (Gen 12:2-3, Is 54:5-6, 62:4-5). What does that truth mean for you personally this week?
How does this chapter strengthen your faith or encourage you in what you’re facing right now? What is one practical way you can respond this week in faith instead of fear?
