DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

What stuck out to you this week?

How would you distinguish living under rule-based from relationship-based obedience, PRACTICALLY? Where are you tempted to lean into rule-based?

The prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32 is an illustration many of us are familiar with. How does focusing on his desire for inheritance without relationship shape your view of the story?

2 Sam. 9:1-13 tells the story of Mephibosheth. What parallels can you draw between Mephibosheth and your own spiritual life?

We have discussed the concept of adoption as sons for three weeks straight now. How does the truth we have heard and now have in our heads get to our hearts, so that we may live in it, not just know it?

The beauty of verse 7 is sung about and talked about often. However, it holds the bad news along with the good. If it is unity with Christ that makes us free, and sons indeed, then that means lack of unity with Christ is slavery—Thus, all humanity is enslaved outside of Christ. How does that image strike you?

- If freedom in Christ and the blessing of sonship is a gift freely given by God’s deliverance, how is a return to the Law an echo of the Israelites in Exodus 16:1-3?
