Esther 5:1-14
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
What caught your attention in Esther 5, and why?
Based on Hebrews 11:1, 2 Corinthians 5:7, Proverbs 3:5-6, Romans 4:20-21, and James 2:17, what is faith? Where do you see that kind of faith in Esther (chapters 4–5)?
Esther risked everything to obey. What are some real-life situations where following Jesus can feel costly? What has helped you trust God in those moments?
Why is it difficult to follow God without knowing the outcome? Where in your life are you wanting clarity instead of trusting Him? What has God given us to help us trust Him?
Esther trusts God’s promises (Esther 4:13–14) and then acts (Esther 5:1–8). Why is it important to see both trust and action in the life of faith?
What differences do you see between Esther and Haman in this chapter? Where do you see tendencies toward pride, control, or self-focus in your own heart?
What do you notice about the counsel surrounding Esther (see Esther 4:13-14) and Haman (see Esther 5:13-14)? What can we learn from this as we try to discern God’s will and walk faithfully in his kingdom?
What was the focus of Haman’s life, based on Esther 5:10-13? How do you think his family felt when he said, “All of this is worth nothing to me so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.” What does this teach us about the blinding power and cost of our idols (e.g., Ps 115:4-8, Is 44:18-20, Jer 10:14)?
What is one situation in your life where you might need to trust God—even though you don’t know how it will turn out? What would it look like to take one small step of faith in that situation?
