DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What stood out to you from our study this week? Was there anything new or challenging for you?

  2. What motive does God provide for blessing Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3? Who will be the recipients of God’s blessing through Abraham according to Genesis 12:3? What does the Psalmist ask of God in Psalm 67:1, and what motive does he give for his request in Psalm 67:2-5?

  3. What do these verses teach us about the blessings and grace we have received from God?

  4. Whether you receive physical or spiritual blessings, what is your first response? Do you think about how to leverage those blessings for the gospel and the blessing of others? Why or why not?

  5. The Macedonian Christians gave, gave above their means, and begged to give to their impoverished brothers and sisters in Jerusalem (cf. 2 Cor 8:1-5). What was the heart motive behind such generosity, according to 2 Corinthians 8:9?

  6. What do you notice about the church at Antioch in Acts 13:1-3? What are they doing in verses 2-3, and what does it lead to? While not everyone in the church was “sent,” everyone in the church participated in the Spirit's work of advancing the gospel. Why is that encouraging and helpful to see? How is it convicting?

  7. What was the attitude of Jonah toward Ninevah and God’s command to go (e.g., Jonah 1:1-3 and Jonah 4:1-3)? What is God’s attitude according to Jonah 4:10-11?

  8. While Jonah was a reluctant prophet, what do we learn about the heart of God from Jonah 4:10-11 and Ezekiel 34:16? What do we see and hear in Jesus in Luke 15:3-7 and 19:10? Why are those verses such good news for us?

  9. What attitude and actions should remembering and rehearsing the grace of God produce in us?

  10. What attitudes, affections, or actions might need to change as a result of this study?
