Intentional Discipleship

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What caught your attention this week in our study? What did you find encouraging or challenging?

  2. A disciple of Jesus does not simply add Jesus to their sinful life but turns from their sinful life to Jesus in repentance and faith. When Jesus said "follow me," the disciples reordered their lives, leaving everything to follow Jesus. What do Mark 1:14-15, 8:34, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, and Galatians 2:20 teach us about the cost of discipleship and disciple-making?

  3. In calling his disciples to follow him, Jesus also commissioned them to proclaim him and teach others how to follow him (cf. Mark 1:17 and Matt 28:18-20). What is the aim of discipleship based on Hebrews 5:12, 1 Corinthians 3:1-2, and Colossians 1:28?

  4. What promises are we given in Matthew 28:18 and 20b as we lead people to faith in Christ and teach them how to follow Christ? How does it encourage you to know you are not on your own in making disciples?

  5. Being a disciple who makes disciples is not optional. Jesus said, “Go and make disciples,” which involves obedience and intentionality. What might need to change in your life for you to heed this call and prioritize disciple-making?

  6. Who around you could use your influence, encouragement, and discipleship? What specific ways can you begin pouring into someone else and discipling them?

  7. Who has significantly impacted your faith journey and helped you grow as a disciple? Those were disciples making disciples. Have you told them how they helped you and/or thanked them? Have you followed their example and helped someone else in their growth as a disciple?

  8. What will you take away and apply this week from our study?
